Make a difference

Volunteers are always welcome. It is a way to provide for those in need and support the community. Here are some of the areas where we have current openings.

Food Distribution Fridays: (These positions are for 1x per week. Positions can be shared by alternating weeks. Each week has a 3 to 4 hr. commitment)

  • 1 - opening: Set-up and tear down: this position assists with the early morning (8:00 am) preparation for distribution by transporting and setting up tables and signs, assisting with the distribution and then replacing the tables and signs at the conclusion of distribution (11:30 am). The ability to lift up to 40 lbs. is a criteria for this position.

  • 2 - openings: Produce: Help load the outside tables with fresh fruits and vegetables, assist with the distribution of the produce. The ability to lift up to 40 lbs. is a criteria for this position.

  • 2 - openings: Registration: Data intake for recording visit as required by Federal Regulations. This position requires working outside and is the first person the neighbors in need meets at the HPFP. Some basis computer skills are required for this position.

  • 1 - opening: Intake: This position assists the neighbor in selecting from the choices of foods available. They write down the selections and pass them on to be bagged.

Volunteer openings behind the scenes (frequency and hours vary by position):

  • 2 - openings: Purchasing: We are in need of help in obtaining food. One position is computer based ordering from the Regional Food Bank and contacting drivers (2x/month, 1.5 hrs) and the other is food shopping at the local grocery stores for items such as bread (50 loaves) and other necessities. (weekly, 2 hrs). No heavy lifting required.

  • 2 - openings: Transporting bulk delivery: Pick up food from the Regional Food Bank Tractor Trailer parked at Dutchess Community College and deliver to the HPFP. Cases of bulk food can be frozen. The ability to lift up to 40 lbs. is a criteria for this position. (2x/month, 1.5 hrs per p/u)

    Assistance for Home Deliveries to shut-in and transient neighbors

  • 1 - opening: Packing: Prior to Friday, neighbors’ bags are packed and labeled in preparation for delivery. (1x/week, up to 3hrs. max.)

  • Drivers - we can always use more drivers to assist with both the RFB delivery and home deliveries either as regulars or on an as-needed basis

  • Help with fundraising efforts as part of the Development Committee

  • Participate in the Food Drives and other Pantry events as scheduled
